Portuguese Language Foundations: A Structured Start
Most people who attempt to learn Portuguese on their own hit the same wall: pronunciation. The language looks deceptively similar to Spanish on paper, but sounds entirely different in practice. This course addresses that gap directly.
What the course covers
The programme begins with phonological training - vowel reduction in European Portuguese, nasal sounds, and the distinction between formal and informal registers. Grammar follows a logical sequence, not an arbitrary one.
Each unit introduces one grammatical structure, applies it across spoken and written exercises, then tests it in context. There are no isolated vocabulary lists without grammatical framing.
Who this suits
Students with no prior Portuguese experience, or those who tried apps and found them too shallow. A background in any Romance language helps but is not required.
Sessions are text-based with audio components. You read, listen, and write - no passive video watching. Expect to spend around 6 to 8 hours per week to keep pace with the material.
Assessment and feedback
Written assignments are reviewed by a human instructor, not automated software. Feedback is specific: you receive comments on sentence construction, register choices, and phonetic transcription exercises.
The course does not promise fluency. It promises a solid grammatical foundation and the ability to hold a basic conversation by the final module. Progress depends on consistent practice.
Course materials are updated each intake to reflect current usage in both Portugal and Brazil.Programme Structure
